Who's Feeding You?

What are you hungry for? Success, travel, money, relationships, peace, a business? No matter what you seek after, if you don’t have the right people feeding you information, you may not have what you need to prepare for the position God has for you. When I was growing up, I realized that you can determine the type of person you’re dealing with based on how they behave at the dinner table. You can examine their manners and how they respect for the people around them, the type of food they eat and how they behave once they begin to open up in conversation. Eating with someone is one of the most profound moments because they tell you who they really are. When we eat, we have entered a place of comfort. In many cases, we are no longer guarded or consciously aware of what we are doing. Our main focus is “getting our grub on” therefore we lose a certain degree of control. Our guard is let down and we show our true colors as a result. When you are trying to understand a person, take them out to eat and watch them begin to expose their truth. This is not to use against them but to ultimately help you decide whether or not this is a person you desire to connect with. At the table you will learn what they like, how they speak about other people, the way they carry a conversation, whether or not they are a good listener, their dreams and goals for the future and much more. Before you can allow a person into your world, you must understand who they are, how they think and whether or not they value the same things you do. Be careful not to allow a person to know all of your dreams, endeavors and the things God has placed in you, before you understand who they truly are. The wrong person might deter you from your dreams simply because they can’t see or understand them. I have been fortunate to have the right people in my life who push me towards my visions, dreams and goals. These people have been honest with me, prayed with me and helped me find my own faith in times of doubt. They have helped me see the good in things while also preparing me for the trouble ahead. I call this particular group of people my “committee.” A committee is a group of people who come together and make important decisions. Do you have a committee? A team or person who stands behind you and tells you when you’re wrong? Don’t misunderstand me, most people will point out your negative decisions; however, your committee also shines a vibrant light on your successes and do their best to help you move forward in your life. Here are 3 sure ways to determine whether or not the people who are feeding you, are helping you get where you are trying to go: 1. They give you information that will better you as an individual. 2. They won’t knowingly lead you in the wrong direction. 3. They will allow you to be yourself, yet they show the proper business acumen and etiquette to be prepared for the opportunity. Everything you know or don’t know, has come from you eating at the table of a family member, a friend or your environment feeding you. Ask yourself today, "Who's feeding me?" Do your close friends and family feed you knowledge, information and encouragement or are they only sharing discouragement, lies and negativity?
